Small batch, personal, mini apple crumble recipe using only 1 apple

One of my favorite fall sweet treats to make when the weather starts getting gloomy and chilly!! I crave it especially when mornings are gloomy or after dinner when it’s cold. This apple crumble has warm notes of maple, cinnamon, and vanilla.
Single serving mini apple crumble recipe:
- 1 ripe apple, diced into small pieces
- 1 tbsp maple syrup
- 1 tsp of brown sugar, optional
- 1 tsp of flour
- sprinkle of salt
- sprinkle of cinnamon and/or nutmeg
- 1 tsp butter
- 1 tbsp of water
- a tiny squeeze of lemon/lime/orange juice
- dash of vanilla extract
- Preheat your oven to 350F
- ice your apple into small cubes and throw into your ramekin
- add in maple syrup, brown sugar (optional), cinnamon/nutmeg, flour, salt, lemon/lime/orange juice (basically everything except the butter and vanilla) into your apple mixture and make sure everything is coated
- bring over medium low heat, add in your butter, water, and let it cook for a few minutes
- After ~5 minutes, the syrup should start to thicken and apples should get a bit softer
- take your ramekin off of the heat and add in your splash of vanilla
Crumble topping:
- 3 tbsp of flour
- 2 tsps of white sugar
- 1 tbsp of butter
- sprinkle of salt
- heavy cream, optional
- COmbine flour, sugar, butter, salt and mix with a fork until flour has slightly come together and clumpy
- optional: divide half of the flour mixture and add heavy cream to form a dough like consistency– this will make two different crumble texture in one dish
- put your flour crumble topping mixture on top of your caramelized apple mixture
- bake in a preheated oven at 350f for ~20 minutes or until the top is golden brown in color
- top with anything your heart desires: ice cream, whipped cream, almonds, caramel, etc.
serve warm out of the oven ❤
