Inspired by magnolia bakery’s famous banana pudding

When i first posted this recipe, it got over 4.4 Million views. it’s One of my all time favorite desserts to make. she’s quick to put together, hard to mess up, and soooooo VELVETY AND DELICIOUS. SHE’S A FAVORITE OF MY FRIENDS. I’VE ONCE HAD A FRIEND GET UP FROM OUT OF BED AFTER SHE’D GOTTEN READY TO GO TO SLEEP, DRIVE TO THE restaurant I WAS SITTING AT BECAUSE SHE KNEW I HAD BROUGHT BANANA PUDDING. THIS RECIPE IS BASED ON MAGNOLIA BAKERY’S FAMOUS BANANA PUDDING. ALTHOUGH THEIR RECIPE IS ALL OVER THE INTERNET, I’VE FOUND THAT AFTER MAKING IT I CAME OUT WAY TOO SWEET AND LESS FLAVORFUL THAN I WANTED. I DECIDED TO FIX IT UP AND MAKE SOME ADJUSTMENTS AND TWEAKS TO GET IT TO WHERE IT IS TODAY.
I HOPE YOU ENJOY AND LOVE IT AS MUCH AS MY FRIENDS AND I DO!
The best Banana Banana Pudding:
- 12oz of sweetened condensed milk (less than a regular sized can)
- 3/4 c of cold milk
- 3/4 c of cold water
- 1 packet (3.4oz) of instant vanilla pudding mix
- 3 cups of heavy whipping cream
- 1 tbsp of vanilla extract or vanilla bean paste
- 1/2 tsp of salt
- 4 cups of barely ripe bananas, sliced
- 1 box (12 oz) of nilla wafers
- Combine sweetened condensed milk, milk, and water until everything is combined.
- Quickly add in instant vanilla pudding mix powder and whisk vigorously for 1 minute until everything is smooth and dissolved*
- set in fridge for at least 3 to 4 hours or overnight
- After the pudding is done setting, in a separate bowl, whip up the heavy cream along with the vanilla extract and salt until stiff peaks.
- Once the pudding is set, combine the whipped cream 1/3 at a time. fold this in so everything can still be light and fluffy!
- For the assembly, i like to layer pudding at the bottom, followed by nilla wafers, bananas, & repeat until you’ve used everything up*
- cover tightly and set in the fridge for another few hours or overnight before enjoying!
Notes:
- instant vanilla pudding mix: this is the only slightly tricky part in the recipe. there have been some people who have had issue with making the base and it comes out liquid-y even after setting in the fridge for a few hours — DO NOT TOUCH THE BASE AFTER MIXING IT FOR A MINUTE OR WHILE IN THE FRIDGE!! the molecules in the pudding need time to be undisturbed so if you keep on messing with it, it will not solidify!
- pudding mixture might turn out a bit being lumpy after setting, that’s completely okay! just make sure to stir it around by itself for a bit to get rid of additional lumps before combining with the whipped cream.
- layer on the banana pudding with a good chunk of pudding in between or if you’re lazy, you can totally combine everything into a bowl and then pour it out into your dish lol
hope you enjoy!!
love,
